Vul datum in Superintendent Mike Flynn Operation Support SSPCA Braehead Mains 603 Queensferry Road Edinburgh EH4 6EA Dear Mr Flynn I write as a member of the Dutch Hedgehog Association in support of the opposition to the Scottish Natural Heritages proposed cull of the hedgehogs on Uist. I understand that the SSPCA supports the cull because once the hedgehogs are caught they are killed and therefore there is no further suffering. This logic could equally apply to pets that have been injured or are ill but is not applied (for example) to dogs in SSPCA kennels that suffer from kennel stress. In the case of the Uist hedgehogs some mental stress will almost certainly occur but any suffering would be kept to a minimum with the result that healthy hedgehogs are captured and with a carefully planned relocation programme would be released back into the wild. I don't want to see hedgehogs suffering unnecessarily, nor see any relocation have a detrimental effect on the mainland population of hedgehogs but know that the BHPS has proposed a balanced relocation plan which I would support. I ask that the SSPCA consults organisations with hedgehog expertise like the Britisch Hedgehogs Preservation Society (BHPS) and reconsiders its policy on the Uist hedgehogs. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely Uw naam hier
